As part of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People)—the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization—the Tri-State Conference is dedicated to eliminating racial hatred and discrimination.
Mission
The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial discrimination.
Vision
The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.
History
The NAACP was founded in 1909 in response to ongoing racial violence and discrimination against African Americans, notably the 1908 Springfield race riot. It has since played a pivotal role in the fight for civil rights, advocating for equal rights and opportunities through legal action, political pressure, and grassroots activism, by addressing critical issues that impact communities. The work of the NAAP in civil rights and social justice has benefited many by fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
